Central Michigan names Angel Flores starting quarterback
Flores, a redshirt senior, was the team's second-leading rusher in 2025 and led the team in rushing touchdowns.
The Central Michigan Chippewas caught the eyes of the college football world in 2025 for their unique offense, which included a three-person rotation at quarterback.
However, in a bit of an about-face from his comments during CMU's Media Day earlier this month, head coach Matt Drinkall clarified after Central's fall scrimmage this week he wants to stick to one quarterback moving forward.
That quarterback will be redshirt senior Angel Flores, as first reported by Pete Thamel.
Flores, who transferred in from Northern Arizona last year, was last season's "secondary" quarterback, rotating with the now-departed Joe Labas. Flores excelled as a rushing threat, leading the team with eight rushing touchdowns and finishing second in rushing yards (527) despite missing four games due to injury.
Flores was not asked to toss the ball very much, but was effective when called upon, connecting on 19-of-28 passes for 195 yards, two touchdowns and an interception on 67 percent completion.
Flores, now the oldest quarterback in the room, will now look to lead the Chippewas and show off his full capability as a dual-threat signalcaller.
Redshirt sophomore Jadyn Glasser will also see the field in certain packages and serve as primary backup.
Central Michigan opens the season with a nationally-televised contest against New Mexico on Saturday, Sept. 5, at 10 p.m. Eastern time on FS1.
