The Travis Steele era is here to stay in Oxford.

Miami University announced on Wednesday morning the extension of Steele's contract, adding seven years to the current deal. The deal will take Steele through the end of the 2033-34 season.

"Coming off two consecutive record-breaking seasons for Miami Basketball, I am thrilled to announce that we have signed Coach Steele to an extended contract to continue coaching here at Miami," Miami University athletic director Davis Sayler said via press release. "Travis brings positivity, passion and ingenuity to the position that is needed today to take this program where we all want it to go. I look forward to having Coach Steele, along with his talented staff, lead us forward into the future, building off his great success as we head towards opening our new arena in 2028. Miami Basketball has a very bright future with Travis leading the way and this is a great day for all of our fans and the campus community."

Steele has gone 154-98 overall in four total seasons with the RedHawks, including 47-25 in MAC play, with an undefeated regular season and a First Four victory over SMU in 2026.

Steele recently won the John McClendon Coach of the Year trophy for his stewardship over the 2025-26 season, guiding Miami to an Associated Press Top 25 ranking as high as #19 in the country before their loss to UMass in the first round of the MAC Basketball Tournament.

In all, five RedHawks from the 2025-26 squad were selected to the end-of-season all-MAC rosters, including MAC Player of the Year and current NBA Draft prospect Pete Suder (first-team), Brant Byers (second-team), Eian Elmer (second-team), Luke Skaljac (third-team) and Antwone Woolfolk (honorable mention).

"My family and I are extremely grateful for the contract extension," Steele said via press release. "Miami has created a lot of happiness for us, and we are excited to continue to build the Miami Men's Basketball Program."
