Last week was uncharacteristic for Toledo. The Rockets suffered their first home loss in 10 games. Recently, their struggles had been reserved for the road. Toledo had been such a formidable home team lately but fared 3-7 in its last 10 games outside of the Glass Bowl.

That road narrative changed on the gray turf at Rynearson Stadium. Facing an Eastern Michigan team that opened MAC play with a perfect 3-0 record, Toledo left little doubt about its superiority. The Rockets stormed into The Factory and emerged with a convincing 34-14 win over the Eagles.

Toledo set the tone in the first 16 minutes of action. On Eastern Michigan's opening possession, defensive linemen Andrew Zock and Lucas Lambert-Pipkin applied pressure on 4th-and-4 from the 35-yard line, forcing a turnover on downs. The Rockets capitalized on the stop on their opening offensive series, with quarterback John Alan Richter connecting with leading receiver Adjatay Dabbs for the first touchdown of the afternoon.

Zock and Lambert-Pipkin struck again on the first play of Eastern Michigan's second drive. Zock sacked quarterback Noah Kim and forced a fumble, which Lambert-Pipkin recovered at the Eagles' 15-yard line to set up a Toledo field goal.

After forcing a three-and-out, Toledo took further control with a 65-yard drive orchestrated by Richter and running back CJ Miller, and Miller capped the series with a short rushing touchdown to create a 17-0 lead.

Toledo effectively put the game to bed by halftime, manufacturing a 31-7 advantage with two additional rushing touchdowns — a second one from Miller and another by Autavius Ison, who shattered his season-high with 104 rushing yards.

Zock was the undisputed standout of the game. The reigning Buck Buchanan Award winner, which recognizes the top defensive player at the FCS level, continued his rampage since transferring to Toledo. Zock was credited with nine tackles, two sacks, one forced fumble, and nine QB pressures in an all-out dominant showing against Eastern Michigan's offensive line. Fellow defensive end Ezra Odinjor added two sacks and three QB pressures as the Rockets totaled six and 14, respectively.

On the other side of the ball, Eastern Michigan's defense struggled to pressure Richter, who threw for 288 yards and a touchdown in Toledo's decisive victory.

Despite the lopsided result, Toledo's recurring penalty problems persisted. One week after being flagged 15 times against Buffalo, the Rockets committed 14 penalties for 118 yards. They are now tied for the seventh-most penalized team in the FBS.

Otherwise, Toledo delivered a commanding defensive performance on the road. Linebackers Isaac Zay and Julian Fox combined for 21 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss, repeatedly stuffing an Eastern Michigan rushing attack that notched just 34 yards on 28 attempts.

Eastern Michigan (4-4, 3-1 MAC) finally saw its unblemished start to conference play come to an end. Despite already playing eight games — more than any other FBS team — the Eagles remain in action for a ninth consecutive week. They head back on the road next week to face another MAC contender in Ohio.

Toledo (5-2, 2-1 MAC) has now earned two convincing road victories in conference play, responding emphatically to its loss against Buffalo. After taking care of business on the road, the Rockets return to the Glass Bowl for their greatest test of the MAC slate: a showdown with defending champion Western Michigan.
