With a month of games left until the MAC Baseball Tournament, it's still anybody's race for the top six spots.
Series Standouts
Northern Illinois won their second straight series, taking two of three from Akron behind timely hitting and late-game execution. The Huskies’ offense scattered 21 hits over the three games, highlighted by senior outfielder Caden Robertson, who blasted a pair of late-game homers in the second game.
His pair of homers would give him 13 for the season, just edging Eastern Michigan's senior infielder Devan Zirwas for the conference lead.
Akron salvaged the finale behind a balanced offensive effort, with the Zips’ Bowen brothers combining for five hits, but the Huskies’ consistency ultimately carried the weekend.
The Minutemen played three games of scintillating baseball in their sweep, downing Bowling Green in three one-run games. Junior catcher Ryan Kolben was clutch throughout, delivering a multi-homer performance, a walk-off walk and key RBIs, reaching base in each game of the series.
Redshirt junior infielder Marc Willi added the finishing touch with an extra-inning walkoff single in the series finale. The Minutemen bullpen was a major factor in icing out the Falcons, allowing just three total runs across three games, preserving leads and enabling the late-game heroics.

Miami took two of three in Toledo, powered by dominant starting pitching from senior pitcher Zac Sohosky and graduate student pitcher Clayton Burke. Sohosky tossed eight innings of two-run baseball, striking out six, while Burke came within one swing of a shutout after throwing eight innings of his own.
Toledo, prevented the sweep in emphatic fashion, erupting for 20 runs in the finale behind a mammoth performance from redshirt junior infielder Troy Sudbrook, who notched two homers and four RBIs. For the eleventh time this season, the Rocket offense eclipsed double-digits runs.
Central Michigan secured a much-needed series win over last-place Ohio in a rollercoaster series. The Chippewas dominated the Friday doubleheader, securing a 15-5 run-rule victory in the first game and a walkoff extra-innings win delivered by senior outfielder Zach Knowlton.

Ohio responded in the finale with one of the weekend’s biggest innings, an eight-run seventh in a 16-6 rout that turned a one-run pitchers duel into a blowout, powered by sophomore outfielder Brady Alexander and capped off by a home run from junior outfielder Taylor Harris.
Western Michigan dropped a tight opener against Eastern Michigan but responded with authority, winning the final two games by a combined 24-10 margin. In the rubber match, senior infielder Avery Thielman delivered one of the weekend’s best individual performances, going 4-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs. Junior outfielder Cooper Hums also homered in back-to-back games, helping power a lineup that found its rhythm after scoring just three runs in the first game.
Kent State and Ball State split the first two games before the Golden Flashes claimed the series. Senior catcher Brody Williams homered in both of the final two games of the series, while senior infielder Luke Matthews and sophomore outfielder Micah Rienstra-Kiracofe provided steady production, combining for seven hits across the three games. Ball State was able to keep pace, but Kent State’s pitching depth, particularly in relief, proved decisive.
The top of the MAC remains jammed. Ball State and Toledo are tied at 13-8. Miami, Northern Illinois and Western Michigan are tied at 14-7 while Kent State retains first place at 15-8.
Central Michigan and UMass hover near the pack, both proven as tough outs, especially the Minutemen, who’ve won seven of their last eight games.
A look ahead
Next weekend presents plenty of opportunities for teams to separate themselves from the pack.
By far the most compelling matchup comes between Western Michigan and Kent State, with the winner of the series potentially vaulting themselves into the top of the MAC. The series will take place in Kalamazoo, a boon for a Bronco team that has excelled at home but flailed on the road.
Northern Illinois has a chance to take the first-place spot for themselves in a home series against a struggling Eastern Michigan team who’ve dropped five of their last six conference games. The Eagles are also 4-18 on the road for the season, the worst in the MAC.
With several teams clustered near the top and offenses heating up across the league, the MAC race is shaping into a week-by-week grind where bullpen reliability may ultimately decide the regular season.
